Private Detective Man Accused of Kidnapping Says He Has Proof He’s Innocent

A man arrested in Madison County on kidnapping charges in October says he has evidence to prove he is innocent.

The truth, says Erroll Johnson, will come out during his trial next month.

“It’s definitely a set up. Thats what I make of it. It was set up from the beginning,” he said.

Johnson, along with three others, was arrested in October, accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her hostage. Police caught up with the group near exit 90 on I-75 and made the arrests. Johnson says it came as a shock – he thought they were helping the woman track down stolen money that her boyfriend owed someone in the group.

“We never knew that she wanted to go home, we never knew that she felt threatened for her life until the police walked up to the car,” he said. “And when they walked up to the car, she didn’t panic, she didn’t say ‘hey, please help me get out the car.”

LEX 18 spoke with the woman the day after the arrests and her story didn’t match Johnson’s.

“I have babies. They could’ve lost their mother for something I know nothing about,” she said.

But Johnson says surveillance video from a gas station shows the alleged victim walking in and out of the car with no urgency or attempt to alert anyone.

“That shows that she couldn’t have been kidnapped,” he said.

In addition to kidnapping, officers say drugs and guns were thrown from the vehicle before it came to a stop. Johnson is also facing attempted murder charges out of Detroit.

He wouldn’t comment on many of the allegations, but did say he hopes for one thing.

“I just want them to at least be fair about it,” he said.
