Private Detective Madison County Woman Arrested for Using Stolen Credit Card

A Madison County woman has been arrested after police say she stole a credit card and used it to buy a TV and a laptop.

On Sunday, a man reported that his wallet had been stolen from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the 400 block of Oak Street in Richmond. He later told police he found out the credit card that was in his wallet had been used at a Walmart to purchase an Element 32″ television and an Acer laptop computer.

During the follow-up investigation, police identified the thief as Ernestine M. Gowdy, 31. A warrant was obtained for Gowdy’s arrest Thursday, charging her with two counts fraudulent use of a credit card under $500.

A search warrant obtained for her home resulted in the recovery of the television and laptop computer. Gowdy was further charged for receiving stolen property under $500.

She is being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
