Norfolk Police are investigating a homicide after police found a man dead in the street early Saturday morning.
Dispatchers took a call at 4 a.m. from a caller who saw a person laying in the street. Fire and rescue crews responded to Shore Drive near Ransome and East Little Creek roads. Police said 25-year-old Alfonso Creekmore’s body was found behind the M-Star Hotel. By 4:15 a.m., they had pronounced him dead.
Creekmore’s family members held a vigil Saturday night in the hotel parking lot where he had been found. They remembered his life with candles and a balloon release.

Family members got a call early Saturday morning. The voice on the other end had news no mother ever wants to hear.
“I got a call about 3:30 this morning from a young lady,” said Eugenia Creekmore. “She said she was trying to save him, but she couldn’t save him.”
Family members told WAVY News’ Jason Marks Creekmore was a father of two children. Police have not yet said how he died, but his family has its suspicion. They told Marks they believe it might be something to do with a woman Creekmore had recently broken up with.
“He’s 25 and she 40-something years old,” explained Eugenia Creekmore. “She went looking for him. She already told me ‘if I couldn’t have him nobody else could.’”
Family members said Creekmore’s birthday would have been on Monday.
“Now he is dead, so instead of planning a party, I have to plan a funeral,” said Eugenia Creekmore.
Police have not released any information about the circumstances surrounding Creekmore’s death or any information about a possible suspect.
