Identity Theft Man Arrested in Vernon, NJ

Vernon police are urging residents to check their credit reports after a Highland Lakes man was arrested for six counts of identity theft and six counts of forgery, police said.

Louis Rom, 47, was arrested on Friday, March 28, following several months of investigation by the Vernon Detective Bureau.

Rom was also found to have two outstanding warrants from Dover Township and Pequannock Township. He was transported to the Sussex County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail for the forgery and identity theft charges and $690 for the two warrants.

Vernon police said there has been a surge in identity theft cases and that the public, especially the elderly, should be on the lookout.
