Here is a story about courage and survival. According to Mt. Sterling Police, a Montgomery County woman was kidnapped on Sunday, held at gunpoint and forced to drive her car for hours. All before she said she made an unlikely escape, and was shot at.
The victim is from Mt. Sterling and said her attacker was her neighbor’s 18-year-old son, Jesse Yaeger. After the alleged attack, Mt. Sterling Police said Yaeger shot himself in the face. As of Monday night he was in critical condition at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Virginia.

The victim said her will to live, saved her life. “It was terrifying to have to beg for your life, it was terrifying,” said the victim. So terrifying that the woman wanted to stay anonymous.
It all started around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon when she was giving her neighbor, Jesse Yaeger, a ride to work. The woman said they pulled up to the Pilot Gas Station near the interstate, when suddenly the attack began.
“He turned to my passenger seat and clicked a gun, and pointed it at me and told me to keep driving,” said the victim. She said they drove for around three hours on I64 from Mt. Sterling to exit 179 in Ashland, then onto back roads.
“He still had the gun on me and he told me to get in the back seat and to take my clothes off.” said the victim. “And I had told him no, I started to beg for my life.”
She said after 30 minutes she finally convinced Yaeger they needed a more secluded area. As they drove off, she planned how to get away.
“He wanted me to turn down the next road and I missed it on purpose threw the car in reverse and jumped out, and I started running and he fired two shots at me then shot himself,” said the victim. Luckily she wasn’t hit, however Mt. Sterling Police said Yaeger shot himself in the face.
The victim said it was an opportunity for her to get to safety. “I ran to this woman’s house and collapsed on her porch and she helped me,” said the victim.
The neighbor in Ashland called 911, then the victim said the community surrounded her with love. It helped the woman end a horrific experience with one thought.
“There are still good people out there,” said the victim.
The victim said she is heartbroken for Yeager’s family. Police said depending on his condition, he could face charges for kidnapping and car jacking.
The victim said her car was ruined in this case and has been taken as evidence. She said she and her kids now have no form of transportation. If you would like to help, donations can be made to the Commonwealth Bank in Mt. Sterling, under “A New Car For A New Start”.
