Blue Grass Energy is warning its customers of a prepaid debit card scam targeting their customers.
The company says perpetrators are calling customers posing as an employee of Blue Grass Energy and saying that service will be disconnected immediately if a payment is not made on their account, which the caller claims is past due.
The caller then instructs the customer to purchase a prepaid debit card and call back with the information to process a payment.
Blue Grass Energy says they will never require customers to pay with a prepaid debit card. Customers may, however, make payments on their account in that form, but will never be required to do so.
The company urges customers to watch for high-pressure tactics, such as a sudden threat to disconnect service unless a payment is made. They say Blue Grass Energy will make multiple contacts about an overdue bill before issuing a final written notice.
