Wrongful Death KSP Searches Park for Evidence in School Bus Driver Murder

Kentucky State Police are searching a park in Scott County for evidence in connection to the murder of a retired school bus driver who was killed at her home in 2010.

A couple of fire departments along with state police have been at Great Crossings Park searching the Elkhorn Creek since 9:30 a.m. Monday, for evidence related to Sue Jones’ beating death at her home after a burglary.

Troopers say investigators have been to the area before and that they received a tip about a more precise location. When asked if they were searching for a possible murder weapon, police wouldn’t comment on that or give any other details about what they are looking for.

As of noon, investigators has not found anything and said it’s always a possibility that they don’t find anything throughout the day.

Police say 68-year-old Sue Jones was beaten to death in her bedroom on Feb. 4, 2010, by a man who had allegedly entered the home to steal money without knowing Jones was there. Police say Jones’ boyfriend discovered her body and called authorities.

The suspect, 30-year-old Nicholas Willinger, entered a not guilty plea in the case in May. He has been indicted on all charges against him – murder, robbery and burglary. He was arrested on the fourth anniversary of Jones’ death.

Police say it was Ciji Jefferson, a woman who lived near Jones and even rode her bus, who put Willinger up to the burglary by telling him the victim had money at the house and that she would not be home at a certain time. Police say the two had agreed to split the money.

Jefferson was arrested in Florida in January and was extradited to Kentucky to face burglary charges to which she pleaded not guilty.

Police say it is possible others will face charges in the case, too, but have not released any other details
