Private Detective, Woman Accused of Trying to Sell Baby Pleads Guilty

A Hardin County woman accused of trying to sell her baby has pleaded guilty.

According to court documents, police say Leeanna Brown tried to sell her then newborn daughter twice. Investigators said she first offered to sell the baby for $5,000, but the deal fell apart. She then gave the baby to her cousin.

Police say Luonda Martin showed up at the police station in December 2013, saying her relative had given her custody of the infant, but that the birth mother now wanted the child back. Investigators say Martin thought she was adopting the baby. But police say Brown wanted something in exchange for her baby, asking Martin to pay court costs and fines for a pending case.

As part of the plea deal, Brown will terminate her parental rights and could face up to two years in prison.
