Private Detective: Police Arrest Man Suspected of Two Gas Station Robberies

Police have arrested a man suspected of multiple robberies at a Lexington gas station.

Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip the police were able to find 35-year-old William Humphrey. Humphrey was identified as a man who first robbed the Leestown Shell station back on July 14.

Police say that he walked into the gas station and pretended to buy a cigarette lighter, flashed a gun and demanded cash. Once he had cash in hand police say he took off.

Authorities say that Humphrey struck the same gas station again on Aug. 10, this time with a crowbar, but didn’t get away with any money.

“There is a natural escalation of these types of crimes. These have the potential, as we’ve seen in recent history in Fayette County, for these to turn deadly,” said Lexington Det. Jason Rothermund.

Humphrey is facing two counts of 1st degree robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
