It is the second Lexington homicide this week, however this time a 19-year-old is the victim. Jeffery Adams was gunned down at a North side apartment complex Friday morning, and the gunman is still on the run.
The shooting happened on Mccullough Drive, in the Winburn neighborhood around 10:30 a.m.
It was day that started with lights and sirens, and ended with heavy hearts
“My heart bleeds for his mother and his father, his family. He was a good hearted young boy,” said Kelly Washegesic. She lived near Adams and considered him a friend.

For most people that new Adam’s, his death is a loss that just doesn’t make sense. Friends and family said he was too good, to go this way.
“That’s a son, that’s a nephew, that’s a brother, that’s a cousin. That’s somebody that is loved and now his life is taken because of somebody else,” said Washegesic.
Police said on Friday morning someone shot Adams at the Winburn area apartment complex. Investigators said when they arrived, Adams was lying in a second-floor hallway, dead.
“They told me the young man was shot in the back of the head in front of my doorway,” said Christopher Smith. He came home from work to the tragic scene. However, for him and other neighbors, the horror was learning who was killed.
“It’s just really sad… He’s still a kid,” said Smith.
“I was like no way, it can’t be him. And it’s devastating, it’s devastating,” said Washegesic.
Friends said Adams had a way with people. He was selfless, and found joy in helping others.
“I will always remember him. I will always remember the good from him, the good heart he had. He’s going to be missed dearly,” said Washegesic.
Now as police search for his killer, friends ask the public to act like Adams did while he lived, and help if they can.
“Don’t be afraid to step out and help. I would want somebody to help my kids if they were in trouble. And I am pretty sure Jeffery’s family would enjoy the same,” said Washegesic.
“I pray for the family. I pray that they get closure and find out who did this,” said Smith.
