Lexington police are investigating a burglary at the new location of the driver’s license office in Fayette County.
The new office just recently opened on Winchester Road last week.
At this point, Fayette Circuit Court Clerk Vincent Riggs says he believes the office was hit sometime between closing time at noon on Saturday and Monday morning.
He says as employees came into work Monday, they realized a safe, where money was kept, had been broken into. The thief used some sort of high tech tool, Riggs said.
Riggs says he hopes surveillance footage at a vet clinic next door will not only give police a good look at the person or persons responsible, but also show them how they got in to the building.

“We believe that the person, whoever it was, entered the building not through the ceiling, clearly. We are not sure which direction they came from as far as entering the building, but the police are investigating and taking some fingerprints and there were some prints,” Riggs said.
The new office was closed for a couple hours Monday morning while police were inside investigating, but it is back open for business.
