Rodriguez was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and then airlifted to UK Hospital to be treated for her injuries considered life-threatening.

Officials say she was stabbed with a large kitchen knife inside her silver car. in the lower parking lot of Meece Middle School on Barnett St. in Somerset around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Popche asked Rodriguez to meet him in the school’s parking lot after school had started. He reportedly handed a note to the victim that read “I love you that is why we are both going to die.”

No students were present during Tuesday morning’s incident but there were several witnesses, including school employees who ran to help the victim, police said.

Police say the suspect and victim were an unmarried couple who had no children in common.
