Private Detective: Versailles Plumber Was Unlicensed

Police have arrested a Woodford County man accused of plumbing without a license.

Investigators say Larry Carter scammed two people in Versailles and faces similar charges in Lexington.

When Chirag Sheth needed his soda machine and toilet fixed at the Shell Mart on Versailles Road, he paid $150 dollars to Carter. After two weeks passed with no results, Sheth called the police.

Versailles police say the Shell Mart owner wasn’t the only victim of Carter and his company J & L Plumbing.

According to his arrest warrant, one homeowner paid Carter $1400 to buy parts for a septic tank repair. Carter was going to get $1400 more dollars after finishing the job.

Police say he never even bought the materials.

David Napier of Mr. Rooter Plumbing suggests that customers should look for a company or contract who advertises, is part of a trade organization, and most importantly, doesn’t demand money up front.
