A pregnant Eastern Kentucky University student was killed and three other people were hurt, in a shooting at a Clark County apartment complex.

It happened on Tuesday night at around 8 p.m. at The Summit apartments on Oxford Drive. Winchester Police said 20-year-old Lamont Wilkerson barged into an apartment with two other people and started shooting. A stray bullet hit and killed 19-year old Amber Caudill, who was in the apartment below.

Wilkerson is charged with murder and burglary. Wilkerson’s girlfriend, Lillian Barnett, is charged with complicity to murder.

LEX 18 News crews were there as Wilkerson was taken to jail. When asked about the crime, Wilkerson said, “I ain’t do nothing. I cant say nothing about nothing. I didn’t do nothing, so i’m not worried about it.”

Investigators said they are still searching for another young man who was caught on security video dropping one of the shooting victims off at the hospital in Clark County.

LEX 18 News has also learned the names of two of the other shooting victims. Family members of one of the men said an apparent home invasion took place at the apartment of Justin Meadows and Crayvone Yelder and that both men were shot in the attack. Winchester Police said, at last check the two victims were in critical condition at UK Hospital.

Meadows’ grandfather said his grandson was hit in the shoulder, back and stomach. He said the innocent teen killed, Amber Caudill, was related to Meadows through marriage.

On Christmas Ever Caudill’s friends and family were spending the holiday in mourning. Family said Caudill was about to surprise her fiance with the news of her pregnancy on Christmas, however she never had the chance.

For Caudill’s friends it’s difficult to fathom the loss her family and fiance are facing. “Not only for them to find out that they lost their daughter, but their grandchild too. I just can’t imagine,” said Cati Hurst. She was one of Caudill’s best friends, and is still in shock from the tragedy.

It’s a pain David Arbic, Caudill’s fiance, now knows too well. On Tuesday night he, his mother and the woman he planned to marry, were watching TV when they heard fighting upstairs. “This time it was louder than normal and we started hearing gunshots,” said Arbic.

He said in a matter of seconds Caudill had been shot. “She already hit the ground and we thought that she was probably trying to take cover,” said Arbic. Sadly, it didn’t take long for him to realize the love of his life, was lifeless on the ground. “When I actually got a second look at her, you could tell that she was already gone… Blood was just piling up,” said Arbic.

Caudill’s death isn’t what friends and family said they want to focus on. “I just want people to remember her for what she was and just to keep that memory alive,” said Hurst

They said Caudill was a straight A student at EKU studying photography. A girl with a heart of gold. “She was talented, happy, always willing to make you smile,” said Hurst. “She didn’t deserve this no, but she deserves to have justice for this senseless crime.”

While no justice will ever take back this tragedy, those closest to Caudill said they find comfort in three of her last words. “We tell each other we love each other at least every 15 minutes,” said Arbic.

Amber Caudill’s funeral is being arranged by Hearn Funeral Home in Stanton.
