Private Detective: Suspected Child Shooter Identified

Lexington Police obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for Alberto Piñedas Contreras, the 28-year-old man suspected of shooting a 9-year-old child in the head over the weekend and sources tell LEX 18 that Contreras was released from the Fayette County Detention Center Wednesday morning before this most recent arrest warrant was issued.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday near Russell Cave Road and Hollow Creek Road. Police said the victim was riding in the car with his parents and two other siblings, when he was hit in the head by a bullet.

Contreras was being held in jail for non-payment of fines. He was in jail a little over two hours. He was released and shortly after police issued his arrest warrant in connection with the Russell Cave Road shooting.

Contreras is wanted on a charge of first-degree assault. He could be driving a four door, blue-colored, 2001 Kia Rio with Kentucky license plate #855-BDB.
