Investigators believe a body that was found in a shallow grave behind a home in Dudley on Monday is that of a man who was reported missing in February.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person on Feb. 27 for 59-year-old Walter Lee Jordan. Authorities said Jordan was last seen on Jan. 16.

On March 2, the sheriff’s office initiated an investigation. Detectives had received information that Jordan may have been a victim of foul play.
On April 6, the sheriff’s office found a body in a shallow grave behind a home on Boykin Drive in Dudley.
The body has tentatively been identified as Jordan, but the body has been taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh to confirm identification.
The investigation is ongoing and the sheriff’s office says there are suspects in the case and arrests are pending.
