A Killeen man was sentenced to 50 years in state prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.
Clayton Vincen Hale, 25, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault Wednesday in Judge John Gauntt’s 27th Judicial District Court.
Leslie McWilliams prosecuted the case that resulted in Hale’s conviction.
According to Paul McWilliams, Bell County’s first assistant district attorney, there was no plea bargain offered by the state.

“It was an open plea,” he said.
According to an arrest affidavit, in July 2013, the victim’s parents came forward to police after the victim made an outcry of being sexually assaulted by Hale.
The female victim, now 8 years old, told investigators and a sexual assault nurse examiner that Hale performed inappropriate sex acts on her.
The affidavit said the sex acts began when the child was 6 and continued until she was 8.
When police interviewed Hale, he admitted having sex with the child. McWilliams said cases where a child’s innocence is lost are among the most heinous.
“That’s basically the argument that we make,” he said. “However long that defendant gets, the child is sentenced to life essentially. They’ve got to live with that the rest of their lives, especially when we’re talking about little bitty kids between 6 and 8.”
