Police continue the search for an inmate who escaped custody in Irvine late Monday night.
Police say the man was being transferred from Laurel County and escaped outside of the Estill County Detention Center around 11:30 p.m. Officers say the man slipped out of handcuffs and ran from the jail to the water treatment facility around the corner. At that point, he got into a truck belonging to a security guard. Police say the keys were inside and the escapee drove off down Court Street. The security guard spotted him and fired several shots, flattening three of the trucks tires. Officials say the suspect ditched the truck and ran off with a machete that was inside.
