Pedophile Tracking Online Sting Nets 11 Arrests in Galveston, TX

Galveston Police say 11 people thought they were going to a Galveston apartment to meet underage children for sex. Detectives say they’d actually been chatting online with police, and that’s was waiting behind the door for the suspects. Police Chief Henry Porretto said: “after assuring the perpetrators knew the victims were underage, after the same subjects described in detail what sexual acts they would like to do to them, they were told “I’m home alone by myself right now and were given an address where the child lived.”

The three day sting was called “Operation on the Hook,” a multi-agency effort, in which federal and local law enforcement officers posed online as children.

Added the chief, “these officers would engage in conversations with both men and women who were clearly looking for sex with children.” It’s become a problem in Galveston. Not a single suspect was from the city, yet that’s where they allegedly went to have sex with a child. Here’s a sample of one online conversation:

Suspect: “where are you and how old”

Officer: “14 next week”

Suspect: “Ur thirteen??”

Officer “Yes.”

8 suspects were charged with felony solicitation of a minor online, while 3 others were charged with prostitution and engaging in organized criminal activity. The chief hopes that will send a message.
