Wrongful Death Suspect in Deadly Hit and Run Arrested

The man police say was responsible for a hit-and-run crash that killed a young boy has been apprehended.

Authorities in Versailles tell LEX 18 that they have apprehended the driver of a hit-and-run crash that killed eleven year old Ryan Moore. Police say William Cody Mefford, 20, from Frankfort, was arrested and is being lodged at the Woodford County Detention Center for the fatal crash that occurred on US 60 early Sunday morning.

According to the arrest citation, Mefford told police he left the scene of the accident because he was scared. He also told officers that he walked to Waffle House, where he called his grandmother to come pick him up. His grandmother took him to the police station.

Mefford is charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, 3 counts wanton endangerment 1st degree and disregarding traffic control device.

The collision still remains under investigation.
