Georgetown Police say a man with a gun approached a couple at Oaks Apartment on Post Oak Path. That’s where police say he stole their car and cell phone leading investigators on a multi-county chase.
The couple in the newer model Hyundai were getting ready to go on a trip and told the suspect as much when he pulled a weapon out. The vehicle owner said the suspect told him, “Hey. I’m going on a trip, too.”

Unfortunately, his getaway plan was foiled because police say that the suspect accidentally pocket-dialed 911 on his phone. That’s when Georgetown Police began pinging the cell in an attempt to locate him. After he hung up, they say he accidentally redialed 911 and this time the call was picked up by Lexington dispatch.
After the call disconnected, Lexington Police say the suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle in the middle of Georgetown Street. The Hyundai was a five speed with keyless ignition and the suspect was unable to restart the car after it stalled out. Not long after the stolen vehicle was found, a liquor store manager at North Broadway and New Circle says a woman came running in saying that she had picked up a strange man who seemed to need help.
The woman who picked up the man, says he began acting strangely so she pulled over and demanded he get out. When he exited the vehicle, the man dropped the cell phone and a gun. The woman panicked and ran into the liquor store for help.
The manager went out and followed the man to a car lot on North Broadway where he says the man began to harass a couple in a truck. The manager believed the suspect was going to carjack that vehicle as well.
That’s when Lexington Police arrived on scene. Officials tell LEX 18 that they do believe this is the suspect in the Georgetown carjacking.
