Private Detective: Couple Arrested After Children Found Locked in Room

A Powell County couple is now in jail on charges they locked two children in a small room..

According to the Powell Co. Sheriff’s Office, they were performing a drug round up with troopers and Probation and Parole officers Tuesday. They arrived at 62 Tori Ann Court looking for Darrell Meadows. There was a camper trailer on the property, which they were allowed to enter because Meadows is on parole.

That’s when, officers say, they discovered the padlocked door. Through the crack they could see two kids, an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old. The children were lying down and not moving. Deputies started banging on the door to try and get them to respond but the kids didn’t. They kicked in the door and found that their mother had left a note in the room that said something along the lines of, “when you wake up text me and I’ll let you out.”

The room didn’t have an A/C or water and was extremely hot, but they say the young boy and girl are fine. They say they also found meth precursors and drug paraphernalia.

Darrell Meadows and the children’s mother, Sarah Mullins, were found hiding in the woods near the home. They been charged with Wanton Endangerment and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

The two children are in the care of Child Protective Services.
