An act of auto theft that turned into a kidnapping led to a chase that spanned most of Madison County.
The initial incident occurred at the Pilot Station on Cherry Blossom in Scott County. A witness says that a teenager was pumping gas into a family’s Hyundai Santa Fe when a white male jumped into the car and drove off nearly hitting the teenager.
That’s when the witness says that two parents ran out of the store screaming that their 8-month-old child was in the back of the vehicle. Police immediately sprung into action.

The vehicle was spotted on I-75 south headed toward Richmond. When the driver noticed that police were following him, a reckless chase began and ended near the Box Ankle Road area.
“He almost ran my dad off the road,” an anonymous caller told LEX 18.
The suspect fled into the woods, but was surrounded by officers and a helicopter. A few moments later, LEX 18’s Josh Breslow heard gunshots.
An ambulance is near the scene but it is unclear if that is for the infant or the suspect.
It appears that the search for the suspect is now over.
