Private Detective: Anderson Man Who Tattooed Vulgar Word on Wife’s Back Receives Two Year Sentence

An Anderson County man accused of tattooing a vulgar word on his wife’s back is given a two year sentence after entering a guilty plea this morning.

Michael Joseph is housed at the Shelby County Detention Center, where he declined our request for an interview. He was sentenced for assault, wanton endangerment, and terroristic threatening–and until now he’s claimed the entire thing was a setup.

“I don’t own a tattoo gun,” Joseph said. “I don’t do tattoos, I’ve never worked at a tattoo shop. There’s no one out there that could say I’ve ever done a tattoo on them.”

That’s what Joseph told us back in January, but it’s not what his wife says. Court documents show on May 11 the couple was driving from Lexington to Lawrenceburg when they began arguing about an ex-boyfriend. The victim claims Joseph hit her repeatedly with a pistol. Then when they got home he held her against her will and tattooed the word “slut” in red ink.

The commonwealth’s attorney says when the judge asked him if the charges were true, he replied yes. The Anderson News is also reporting that Joseph must pay his wife a thousand dollars to remove the tattoo.
