A Jessamine county couple stumbled upon a disturbing discovery during a hike Wednesday afternoon along the Kentucky River.
“I just seen something laying there that looked like a hand,” said Kelly Brumfield, witness. “I didn’t know if it was animal but he said that looks like human.”
“You can see the acrylic nail, it had to be a she because it had acrylic nail,” said Richard Bryant, another witness. “There was flesh on the bone and everything.”

However, after spending several hours on the scene on Lock Number 7 Road, Jessamine county coroner couldn’t determine if the bones found were human.
“There’s a partial limb which consists of a hand and part of an arm,” said Michael Hughes, Jessamine county coroner. “That’s difficult for us right now and I can’t really say with any certainty whether that’s human or not.”
On Monday crews, from both Jessamine and Fayette counties, spent the entire day searching the Kentucky River near the Valley View Ferry after receiving a tip a body may be in the river but weren’t able to find anything.
According to a preliminary investigation, the Jessamine county coroner doesn’t believe the cases are connected.
“They would not be related primarily based on the decomposition of this material as opposed to a freshly submerged body,” Hughes said.
The coroner also said aside from the limb they also found several small bones along the river bank.
The hikers say the shocking discovery will keep them from hiking the area again.
“Oh yeah I ain’t gonna go hiking here no more,” Bryant said.
The coroner said the limb will be taken to the medical examiners office and he hopes to have a report Thursday morning.
