Private Detective: FBI Joins Statewide Manhunt

Investigators say the career criminal who shot at law enforcement in Tennessee and Kentucky over the weekend is not alone.

It began Saturday in Tennessee when police tried pulling over Floyd Ray Cook.

Cook was wanted for violating the sex offender registry and trafficking drugs but it didn’t take long for the traffic stop to take a violent turn.

“Shots fired! Shots fired! Officer down! Officer down!” came through dispatch.

The 62-year-old man now faces an attempted murder charge for shooting the officer, luckily it hit his bullet-proof vest.

“I have help coming,” the dispatcher said. “I need you to breathe. talk to me, brother. I know you’re hit. They’re coming.”

An hour later there were more shots, this time in Kentucky when a state trooper tried to pull Cook over.

The convicted rapist and robber wrecked his truck and took off into the woods after a shootout with the trooper in Cumberland County.

Officials expanded the search statewide and the FBI joined in.

Tuesday morning new leads took investigators to Lebanon.

“Police officers were peaking through our front window yelling ‘Police, open up!” said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. “We opened the door to the cops with guns out and hot.”

Officers found no sign of Cook there, but Tuesday morning they revealed he may have help.

They say Cook may be 50 year-old Troy E. Wayne and troopers warn that Cook is as dangerous as they come.

Cumberland county schools have been closed for the past couple of days as they search for the men.

They’ll decide whether to resume Wednesday morning.
