Fixing a maintenance issue at some Lexington apartments could be delayed because someone is going around stealing tools from their storage sheds.
Several Lexington apartment complexes that are stocked with common tools were broken into recently.
“As recently as November 18th was our first one, but they really picked up in December,” Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department told LEX 18’s Kristen Pflum.

The tool thief has hit just about every apartment complex in the Tates Creek/Man O’ War Corridor.
In some places the thief took all of their pumps, saws, drills and power cords.
He also helped himself to the Grand Reserve’s golf cart to tote around his stolen goods.
He has done some real damage at several complexes on Richmond Road.
The only area he hasn’t touched is the city’s north side.
“We think whoever is doing this probably has knowledge or some experience as an apartment maintenance man that would know there are lots of power tools of high dollar value,” said Thomas.
Police have yet to figure out what the person stealing the tools is doing with them because they aren’t ending up in pawn shops.
“For us to be able to get someone to come forward and say, ‘I know who this person is, he’s been stealing a lot, this is where the tools are,’ would be a huge help for us,” said Thomas.
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
