A man who purchased a fake identity off of Craigslist is now in custody and facing charges for identity theft.
Police say 47-year-old, Paul Keener was arrested for identity theft after living under at least three different aliases for the past 20 years.
According to the criminal complaint, Keener escaped from state custody in Colorado in 1996. After that Keener bought a fake identity associated with a confirmed missing person from Virginia. Kenner bought the documents from a seller on Craigslist for $300.

From then on, Keener maintained several aliases including Aaron Silverman, Paul Robison and Scott Walker. He did this by obtaining passports and driver’s licenses.
Law enforcement officials learned of the defendant’s presence in WNY in January after he used his aliases and fake identity documents to cross into Canada and register to vote. He also applied to receive federal and financial student aid and obtained social security cards.
Keener was charged with identity theft and using a passport secured by false statement. He faces a minimum of two years and maximum of 12 years in prison.
