Pedophile Tracking Elizabethtown Man Arrested After Prowling A Neighborhood Looking For Children

An Elizabethtown man who admitted to prowling around neighborhoods looking for a child to sexually abuse was stopped before he could attack anyone.

WAVE-TV reports that Elizabethtown police say 37-year-old Edward Shane Sparks was walking around a neighborhood near Greenway Drive and Valley Creek Road looking for yards with toys in them and then knocking on those doors. Police say that Sparks admitted he was looking for a 10-12-year-old child to sexually abuse.

Angela Fulkerson, a Hardin County bus driver, is credited with leading police to Sparks.

“I thought, ‘Man, he’s creepy looking,'” she told WAVE-TV.

Police say that Sparks walked to a nearby park and ride and tried to get into the bus monitor’s car. Fulkerson then watched to make sure the bus monitor was safely able to leave.

She says that Sparks then approached the school bus and knocked on the door. The bus was empty, but Fulkerson said there was no way she was letting the man in. WAVE reports that she radioed back to district for someone to call police.

“I’ve had cold chills almost all day thinking about the possibilities of what could have and what did not,” Fulkerson told WAVE.

Police found Sparks nearby and he admitted all of his intentions.

Sparks was taken to Communicare to be mentally cleared. They determined his demeanor was more closely associated with drugs and he was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital, there he exposed himself to the officers and hospital staff.

He is charged with indecent exposure and attempted rape because police say he fell under the criteria of having ability, desire and opportunity to commit a crime.

Fulkerson is relieved the kids are safe.

“No child deserves what that guy had intentions of doing. No child,” Fulkerson said.

Police told WAVE that they’ve run into Sparks before for indecent exposure.
