Private Detective: Couple Arrested After Children Attend School With Burns

A Laurel County couple has been indicted after teachers say a student showed up to school with severe burns on his hands in January.

The couple claims it started out as a game.

James Stark and Amanda Crow are charged with criminal abuse of children and wanton endangerment after investigators say Stark poured lighter fluid on the hands of Crow’s children and lit them on fire. He claimed he was trying to teach the children, ages seven and ten, not to play with fire.

Investigators say Stark, 28, said in an interview that it was all just a game.

The seven-year-old child showed up to school with second degree burns on the back of his hands.

“They said he had flimsy band-aids on his hand and there was some ooziness coming from the burns,” said Detective Stacy Anderkin with London Police.

Crow is charged with complicity.

“Mrs. Crow failed to stop his actions and she also failed to seek medical attention for the children,” said Anderkin.

The children are now in the care of relatives and Crow and Stark are in the Laurel County Detention Center.
