Charles Moorhead, 35, has been sentenced to life in prison for having sex with a teenage girl.
District Attorney Rene Pena, who represents the 81st District of Texas, tells News 4 San Antonio the case against Moorhead came to light as part of his office’s Human Sex Trafficking Initiative.
Pena’s office provides training to various groups in the community about human trafficking, because Pena believes the more educated and aware people are, the harder it is for predators to hide.

Moorhead sexually assaulted a teen girl inside a bathroom of a Stockdale laundromat. “It just goes to show that it can happen anywhere,” said Pena. Investigators say the crime occurred last February.
Pena says, educators noticed a change in the teen girl, “and they were able to contact our partners.”
Pena went on to say, this case is an example of multiple agencies working together, sharing information to take a dangerous predator off the streets.
Moorhead is no stranger to law enforcement, and in 1999, he was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a woman in her 80’s.
Moorhead spent 15 years behind bars before his release.
“We must protect the general public against individuals with those propensities, so I think justice was served,” added Pena.
Moorhead received a life sentence this time due to his previous felony conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault in 1999.
