Private Detective: Police Looking For Local Restaurant Burglar

Police are looking for a man they say has burglarized a popular local restaurant several times.

The first burglary at Nick Ryan’s on Jefferson Street took place in early March, when police say a man broke into one of the restaurant’s large coolers out back.

“This guy comes in and cuts the lock and goes inside and helps himself to a lot of the food products, all worth quite a bit of money,” Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department told LEX 18’s Angie Beavin.

A week later they say the man came back and broke through the lock with bolt cutters, taking New York Strip Steaks and a case of ribs.

A few days after that, the burglar was back and stole half a dozen cases of beer.

After the first few burglaries, restaurant management even put an alarm system on the locks, but that didn’t stop the man from coming back and attempting to take the patio furniture.

Police think he is approaching the back of the restaurant from a nearby alley, Ballard Street. They think a white pickup truck is involved.

“Unfortunately, you know, this is a very upstanding business in our community. These people here work hard,” said Thomas. “And we want to do everything we can to help them stop sustaining these losses.”
