Lobos, the Fayette County sheriff’s police dog, sniffed out seven kilograms of methamphetamine Sunday morning during a traffic stop, sheriff’s officials said.
Manuel Alvarez, 49, of Royal City, Wash., was stopped around 11 a.m. at a rest area on Interstate 10 near Flatonia. Sgt. Randy Thumann became suspicious of Alvarez’s travel itinerary and asked to search his vehicle, which Alvarez consented to, according to sheriff’s officials.

Lobos helped Thumann locate the meth in a compartment built into Alvarez’s pickup, officials said. Seven kilos of meth has a street value of about $680,000, officials said.
Alvarez was charged with felony drug possession and jailed in Fayette County.
