A Parkland sex offender was arraigned Wednesday on child pornography charges after thousands of digital images of minors were found in his cloud storage, according to court documents.
Scotti Jason Ortiz, 33, faces four counts of first-degree depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in Pierce County Superior Court. Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set his bail at $500,000.

Ortiz also had a warrant out for failing to register as a sex offender, which Pierce County sheriff’s deputies used to arrest him May 6.
According to court documents:
Google notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an email address that included Ortiz’s name was being used to store child pornography in a Google Drive cloud storage account, and gave the center the IP address from the computer that uploaded the video file.
The center passed that information to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, where an investigator viewed the 12-minute video, then found the last known physical address for Ortiz. That search also revealed that Ortiz had failed to register as a sex offender.
The detective matched the IP address to a physical address in Spanaway. He drove by there and found three vehicles in the driveway, two registered to the husband and wife who lived there, and one to another woman. The detective looked the woman up on Facebook and saw that she was a friend of Ortiz.
The detective drove past the house and saw a man on the porch on his cellphone with “distinct and pronounced neck tattoos” and recognized him as Ortiz, arresting him on the outstanding warrant.
After Ortiz was booked in the jail, the detective got a search warrant for Ortiz’s phone and extracted more than 8,000 images from it, most of which were pornography. Pictures of Ortiz were also found in the phone.
