Private Detective: Police Officer Charged in Theft Case

State police say a Simpsonville Police Officer is the one who broke into the department’s evidence locker.

WHAS in Louisville reports that a cash purchase of a fence, serial numbers on stolen cash, and a dirty boot print lead investigators to Officer Terry Putnam.

That burglary happened in November 2015. Cash, handguns, and drugs were stolen.

In March, a Shelby County grand jury indicted Putnam on theft, criminal mischief, tampering with evidence, and official misconduct charges.

As of now, Putnam remains on the police force but is suspended without pay.
