Private Detective: Couple Accused in Meth Case in Court

The wife of a man accused of feeding meth to dogs claims that revenge is most likely what caused him to do it.

Anna Burdette is also in jail on charges associated with the case.

She told LEX 18’s Richard Essex that she is not guilty, but instead the victim of what she calls an abusive relationship fueled by drugs.

“They say that drugs don’t change you , they just bring out who you really are, and apparently he really is garbage,” said Burdette.

Police say that a neighbor reported seeing a dog in the front yard having a seizure. Lab results revealed that the dog ingested meth. Police busted Anna’s husband Benjamin for the crime. He is also alleged to have given meth to a neighbor’s dog.

When asked if Benjamin did in fact give the dogs meth, Anna responded, “he wouldn’t give me any.” She said he was very greedy with his drugs.

The couple have both been charged with wanton endangerment after police found chemicals and a meth pipe within reach of the couple’s two-year-old daughter.

Benjamin Burdette pleaded not guilty to two cruelty to animal charges on Tuesday morning.

Anna said that she can’t see a dog taking meth on its own.

“Well, I don’t see a dog just going and eating meth,” said Anna. “I mean he was kinda bad about leaving his drugs around.”

Benjamin pleaded not to the wanton endangerment charges as well, but he now faces additional charges after smuggling drugs into the jail.
