Deputies say that a Bell County man and his juvenile girlfriend plotted to kill the girlfriend’s relatives so they could run away together.
Through an investigation, deputies say that they discovered 18-year-old Joseph L. Helton and his girlfriend were sending letters and text messages that discussed causing serious physical injury or death to her family and then running away together.

They state that Helton and the girlfriend formulated a plan for him to enter the girlfriend’s home using pictures sent to him by her of the entrances and exits of the residence. He would then kill her aunt and uncle and they would run away together.
Both were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Helton was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center and the juvenile was taken to an Adair County holding facility.
