The Barbourville Police Department has put out a warning after several complaints about clowns.
They warn the public that dressing as a clown and driving, walking, or standing in public can create a dangerous situation for yourself and others.
In the Facebook post, they ask the public to please refrain from the unnecessary activity of dressing like a clown and hanging out in public.

Dressing up is not against the law, but doing so in public and creating a sense of alarm is illegal, and it is just plain creepy.
They also warn that threatening people is also illegal and you can be arrested for it.
The Facebook post, which can be read in full below, also says that assaulting, shooting, attacking, or injuring someone simply because they are wearing a costume can also lead to criminal charges.
