Private Detective: Madison County Armed Robber Could Be Connected to Another Crime

Madison County deputies are investigating an armed robbery. Detectives believe the same man may also be responsible for an attempted robbery earlier in the day.

The armed robbery happened at a Dollar General located along Highway 52 in Madison County. Investigators say the man walked into the the business shortly after 11:30 Sunday morning. He reportedly brought items up to the counter like a typical transaction, but also handed the clerk a piece of paper.

“A note that told the clerk to remain quiet, open the register, at that point he lifted up his shirt. Clerk saw what appeared to be a handgun,” said Deputy Michael Stotts.

Richmond police took a very similar call before this robbery. Officers say a man walked into a separate Dollar General on Robert R Martin bypass, attempted to buy some items and asked the clerk for a pen.

The man reportedly wrote a note claiming it was hold up and handed it to the clerk, but then said it was all a joke and left.

Shortly after, deputies were called to the Dollar General along Highway 52.

It unclear how much money the man got away with.

“The man, after he handed the clerk the note and got the money, he took his note back,” said Deputy Stotts.
