Police investigators officially confirmed that Anna “Annie” Schmidt was found deceased in the Columbia Gorge, nearly a month after she was last seen in Portland.
Her family members told KATU News Friday that she was recovered near Tooth Rock Trailhead.
There were no signs of foul play in her death, and the medical examiner ruled her death as accidental.

“There is comfort in knowing from the circumstances that there would have been no suffering. We can positively identify the clothing and personal items found at the site as belonging to Annie,” her family said in a statement.
Schmidt was reported missing on Wednesday, October 19 after her roommate hadn’t seen her for three days. Her car was found parked near the Bonneville Dam the following day.
Search and rescue teams spent the next few days scouring trails around the Gorge for any signs of Schmidt. Crews suspended the search on October 23, however family members continued looking for Anna.
The family said Friday, November 11 that her remains were found at the bottom of a cliff below Munra Point. That area, they said, is thick with vegetation.
Schmidt’s cause of death was ruled to be blunt force trauma, and her death was ruled to be accidental.
