A neighbor says students next door were celebrating Jackson’s win when people starting running around screaming there was a shooting and knocking on his door asking for shelter.
“They was like – a shooting, everybody leave, cops came immediately. it was very crazy outside,” said Jayvon Smith.
Witnesses say the shooting happened at a party at The Retreat, an off-campus housing complex near University of Louisville. Police found a man and woman shot when they arrived. Later, another man showed up at Jewish Hospital with a gunshot wound. Police say he was also shot at The Retreat, but what actually happened as the shots were fired is still unclear.
” A football player got shot in the chest and the cheerleader got shot in the back,” said Naszir Jackson, UofL sophomore. “I thought the night, we should be celebrating the Heisman. Didn’t expect it to end on this tragic note like that for somebody to get shot,” he said.
Police say the three students who were shot are currently in the hospital and are expected to survive.
