Missing Person Celebration of Life Planned in Honor of Missing Fleming Co. Man

The mother of a missing Fleming County man is organizing a celebration of life in his honor.

Wesley Mattox has been missing since October 12. His mother, Jean, says that she believes his body was recently found.

People decorating a grave-site in a cemetery on December 22 spotted a body in the woods. The police chief said that the body had been there for weeks and it was badly decomposed. Jean was taken to the area after the scene was cleared.

“All I could do is stand there and cry and think about him,” said Jean.

Now she is certain that the body is that of her son Wesley. She is putting together a Celebration of Life on Friday.

During the service, Jean will encourage people who knew him best to share good memories and funny stories. She says that is what Wesley would have wanted.

“I told them all to just dress casual,” said Jean.  “Wear your jeans and t-shirt like you boys always ran around.”

The visitation will begin at 11 on Friday, with the service starting at 1. If the body is positively identified as Wesley, Jean told LEX 18 he will be created.

“I am going to take him and put him where he always wanted to be, and I have the land owner’s permission,” said Jean.

The body was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy and identification. Jean said that the service will go on, even if an ID is not made by then.
