The Bell County Sheriff’s Office put out an urgent message on Sunday about a phone scam in the county.
The sheriff’s office says they have gotten reports of someone calling people in the area either claiming to be from the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Bell County Dispatch, or Kentucky State Police. They say some of the calls have been in regard to supposed warrants the victim has on record. At some point during the conversation the caller claims that the victim can pay a fee to have the warrant removed.

Other calls are from people claiming they are from the Kentucky State Police collecting donations for the Bell County Sheriff’s Department. At least one of the calls was made to a landline from Ashland, Ky. (606)-618-9447.
The Bell County Sheriff’s Office wanted to make it clear neither they, dispatch, nor KSP will ever make calls of those nature. They say anyone with an active warrant will not be contacted by phone, and there is also no fundraising of any kind being conducted.
If you have been a victim of these calls, please call 606-337-6174.
