Private Detective: Police Seek Info on Laundromat Thief

For the seventh time in the last few weeks, detectives are trying to solve a string of laundromat burglaries.

Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department said that the burglary at Big Blue Laundromat is connected to others that are being pulled off by what he calls ‘pros’.

“This is a quick, easy way to make some money and they have the skill set to accomplish that,” he said.

That skill was caught on camera and police have watched the video over and over. One time, the tools he used were not enough, so the burglar went to his accomplice’s car and came back in.

“And that’s when he really goes to work on this machine,” said Thomas.

Within seconds, the man is able to break into the machine. The coin-op thief is facing felony charges for destruction of property.

If you have information about any of the laundromat burglaries, your tip could get you a cash reward from Bluegrass Crime Stoppers. You can call (859) 253-2020 or text your information to ‘CRIMES’.
