Private Detective: Whitley Co. Mother Pleads Not Guilty to Murder of Husband, Daughters

A Whitley County woman pleaded not guilty to the murders of her two daughters and her husband.

Police say Courtney Taylor shot all three of her immediate family members in their home in January. Taylor was arraigned on capital murder charges.

Taylor is accused of shooting her daughters Jessie and Jolee, and her husband, Larry, while all three were asleep in their beds. Taylor is also accused of pointing her gun at two sheriff’s deputies, forcing them to shoot her twice.

A KSP detective said Taylor told him she killed her husband Larry over missing money and then killed her two daughters so they wouldn’t have to grow up without a mother like she did. The detective said Taylor killed her husband over a cash settlement of $264,000 that was missing from their bank account.

The detective said on the night of January 13, a relative of the Taylor family forced his way into the home because no one had heard from the family since the day before. He told police he found Courtney Taylor asleep on the couch with a loaded gun. Investigators say the man found Jessie Taylor lying dead in her bed. He then unloaded Taylor’s gun and called 911.

The detective said Taylor indicated at the scene of the crime that she wanted to die and she said, “it’s not supposed to be this way.”

After entering her plea, Taylor’s attorney made a motion for the judge to clear the courtroom. The judge granted the motion.
