There are 31 dogs in need of a home in Larue County after their owner was found dead over the weekend.
The sheriff’s department is still trying to determine what led to 68-year-old Mary King’s death. She was found dead in the home on Friday morning.
Inside of the home, authorities say they found 31 dogs, mostly Chihuahua and Terrier mixes, living among dog food bags scattered among mounds of trash.

“The feces was inches thick in the floor,” said Mike McNutt, the Director of Hardin County Animal Control. “Nobody deserves to have to live in a situation like that.”
The department is still waiting for medical records to see if the conditions inside of the home lead to King’s death. They say that the dogs are in generally good health.
The Associated Press reports that King’s nephew, Loid Sadler, and his wife, Lora, were living with King at the time of her death. They were the ones who called authorities. The Associated Press reports that they have been charged with animal cruelty and violating county ordinances.
In Larue County, a special license is required to take care of more than five dogs.
King was renting from family members at the time of her death.
