Private Detective: Woman Arrested After Crash and Stolen Items Found

Police arrested a woman after she wrecked and they found several stolen items in her vehicle.

Jacqueline Smith, 33, of Gray, was arrested Thursday afternoon off KY 1223 after deputies were dispatched to a crash.

When police arrived at the scene, several residents of a nearby apartment complex advised that Smith had allegedly taken ornamental items from apartment doors from residents without their permission.

Police say at least two of the victims were at the scene and identified their property. Their property was returned to them and Smith was charged with the theft of those items.

Smith was determined to be under the influence and stated she had taken Suboxone.

Police also discovered that the license plate on Smith’s vehicle belonged on a red Chevrolet pickup and not on the Saturn Outlook she was driving.

Smith was charged with theft by unlawful taking, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, driving on DUI suspended license, no registration plates, failure to register transfer of motor vehicle, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, and numerous other traffic violations.

If there are any victims who see their property, they are asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office so their property can be returned.
