Missing Persons, Reported Hoax

Collinsville Police have determined that a report of a missing Caseyville man was a hoax, Lt. Eric Zaber said.

Theodore “Terell” Spencer, 20, had been reported missing and in possible danger Monday but was found safe Tuesday in Festus, Mo. He had last been seen leaving Little Caesars Pizza in Collinsville Crossing the night of April Fools’ Day, according to the initial report.

Zaber said police cannot release details of the hoax at this point. They plan to present their case to prosecutors next week.

Spencer has not been arrested but is the focus of the investigation, Zaber said. The person who made the report acted in good faith, he said.

Spencer could not be reached for comment.

The five members of Collinsville Police’s detective division spent a day and a half trying to find Spencer and subpoena records, Zaber said.

“Yeah, there was a lot of resources invested in this,” Zaber said.
