Drug Dog Sweep 3 Grams of Cocaine Found

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office charged a Burlington man after allegedly finding drugs in his car during a traffic stop.

At about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, deputies stopped a 2007 Dodge Charger driven by Richard Lamar Ruffin, 30, of 2209 Moran St. Ruffin was stopped for speeding on Apple Street near Lee Street, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

Deputies called out a narcotics-detecting dog, and the dog “gave a positive indication on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics.”

Deputies say they found 3 grams of cocaine under the center console of the car. Deputies also seized $1,280 from Ruffin.

The Dodge Charger was towed and seized by the sheriff’s office.

Ruffin faces charges of trafficking in cocaine by possession, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ruffin was placed in the Alamance County jail under a $35,000 secured bond.
