They contacted Kirksville police detectives who then went to visit Ives at his residence.

The suspect indicated to police that he knew the package contained marijuana, and he gave postal inspectors permission to open the package.

The inspectors then confirmed that the package contained 1.4 pounds of pot.

Police said when they were at Ives’ apartment, he surrendered a marijuana smoking pipe, but he later denied consent to search.

Officers then applied for and were granted a search warrant.

During a search of the residence, officers located several items of paraphernalia, including another marijuana smoking pipe, rolling papers, a set of electronic scales and notes and figures referencing marijuana and baggies.

Detectives also recovered several receipts referencing shipments back and forth between Ives and the individual who had sent the package that was intercepted in Kansas City.

Ives is being held on $75,000 cash-only bond.
